Boys 7th & 8th Grade Travel |

Here's some background information why we are not having travel teams in those ages this year (07-08).
I believe that CVYBA - any youth sports organization - benefits most when working closely with school programs. The CV Boys program asked us not to have travel during the school season. There are school teams in both 7th and 8th grades for both Eagle View MS and Good Hope MS. That is approx. 24 players per grade. Without those 24 players, the CVYBA travel team for that grade is missing most of its best players. Yes, that is an opportunity to give players 25 through 36 some more playing time, and if a coach stepped up who wanted to lead that group, CVYBA would support them. CVYBA travel teams are encouraged to play year-round, in tournaments, summer leagues, etc. There are limited opportunities to play games at those ages, since most schools have teams. The aggressive coach will find opportunities, but the aggressive coach also wants to take their best squad. In 06-07, CVYBA tried a compromise position where teams did not play games during the school season. We received a number of complaints, and since we could not control the quality of that experience, the board decided not have that program. If your 7th/8th grader registers for CVYBA, then makes school team, he should talk to his coach about doing both. If not allowed, you can withdrawal from CVYBA, net cost is $20 ($75 fee - $55 refund). If your 7th/8th grader does not register for CVYBA and does not make the school team, they can register late for $100.
We will continue to explore ways to complement the school programs. And your input is critical. Thanks in advance. G |
