So you’re wondering what you can teach your team. Here’s some basic principles to focus on...
Simple Offense Components Good basketball teams have strong fundamentals. These fundamental components are primary learning objectives: - Heads-Up Dribbling. Get your team to dribble with their heads up.
- Forwards to Move to Get Open. Get your #3, #4, and #5 to move to get open. Consider the ‘no dribble scrimmage’ at the end of every practice.
- 3. Pass & Cut. Every time your player makes a pass, they cut to the basket looking to get the pass back.
- 4. Pick & Roll - This is harder to teach but kids are amazing. They will learn it.
PositionsNumbering positions (used by most colleges) helps players (especially young ones!) remember their role on the court. Here is a simple numbering system... #1 or POINT GUARD - #1 is your primary ball handler. At younger ages your #1 scores alot; as they get older, they score less and become more of a play maker and floor general. #2 guard - Your #1 and #2 will be the primary people to bring the ball down the court for you. #3 guard/forward #4 forward #5 forward/center CVYBA Position Conventions: #1 brings ball up court #3 brings ball in on inbounds plays |
