After coaching for awhile, especially at CVYBA, you will have been on both sides of a blowout. Even though we often don't keep score, the sheer lopsidedness of a blowout is recognized by all. As hard as we try for balanced teams, drafts are not perfect. Since blowouts are no fun for the losing team, and the winning team learns little - even develops bad habits - during a blowout, we have a few suggestions to make the best of these times:
And here is a paragraph recently inserted into our Code of Conduct: "I will, when winning by more than 15 points, show mercy to the other team by requiring 5 passes before a shot, by only letting kids who don’t score a lot shoot, by practicing offenses, and/or by using other techniques to keep the game from being a blowout." |
